Welcome Athletes

Welcome to the Malvern 200 Mile Club blog. The response to the 200 mile club idea has been overwhelming! Thus far, 32 faculty members have expressed interest in trying this challenge! I thought going into this that about 10 would try and 5 would complete it. The bar has been raised ... my new goal for you is to get 20 finishers!

I'm impressed that you folks have taken it on because it takes guts to commit to this. Jim Mack and I tell our cross country runners that the toughest step to being on the team is signing up for the team. Once you're part of a team then the motivation needs to come from within as well as from your peers. Therefore, I hope to use this blog as a means to keep everyone updated on each other's progress and perhaps you'll be inspired by the Malvern community.

I am new to blogging so go easy on me. Nah, actually you can be tough on me because I'm going to be tough on you.

So now that you've committed yourself to this and to a healthy lifestyle this summer, let the updates roll in! Remember, you can check your course mileage on www.mapmyrun.com. You have until Labor Day (9/7/09) to get there. Now gogogogogogo!!!

  4. My wife beat me by two minutes in a 10 mile road race this morning. She didn't rub it in, too much :)

  6. Hi everyone. Well I am 8.5 miles into the journey. I think i need new walking shoes- does anyone have any suggestions? Right now I am getting blisters from these that I am wearing. Thanks for any suggestions!

  7. Just get running shoes, they are built better than 'walking' shoes. I suggest going to Runaway Success, Downingtown Running Store, or Bryn Mawr Running Club. Workers at running specialty stores tend to understand biomechanics pretty well and should be able to recommend a good fit for you.

  8. Well I went out yesterday and bought New Balance walking shoes at DSW- big mistake. My right foot is pronating so badly that I am not going to be able to wear them. I will now go to one of the above stores and get the right shoes fitted specifically to me. I can use the other ones anyway just to ride my bike!
I should have waited for the great suggestions.

  9. There is another great shoe store in Newtown Square called "The Running Place." I go there all the time.

  10. Hi everyone. The guy at Runaway Success in Paoli fitted me for shoes and he was terrific. By the way he offered us a 10% discount at the store. (You know I am always shopping for a bargain). Anyway he was really nice and fitted me for some comfortable supportive shoes. Funny- he used to coach Soccer at Malvern Prep! A few years ago. Have a nice weekend!

  11. Oh by the way- if you want to get the 10% at Runaway Success just tell them you are part of the Malvern Prep 200 Mile Club! Sorry I omitted that info.
I just read Mike's information above and it seems that we are doing extremely well as a group and it's exciting to hear we almost walked across Pa. WOW what a first week. I am anxious to hear how everyone is doing......
